The 2.5 TFSI is one of the last performance five-cylinders still in production, and you can hear it: the 1-2-4-5-3 firing order produces that offbeat, almost syncopated warble that wrote the history of Audi's rally-bred quattros. The steering is quick, the chassis keeps the body flat through committed cornering: after ten minutes you forget you are in an SUV at all. The 4.5-second 0–100 km/h sprint is the technical figure; the ease with which you repeat it on every run out of the harbour is the surprise.

The RS Q3 Sportback has no variants in the range: it is already the distillation.
