What sets Golfo Aranci apart from the rest of the Gallura?
Golfo Aranci is quite literally the end of the line: the railway tracks stop here, the road stops here, and the sea begins. It has stayed a fishing village at heart — boats returning to the quay in the early afternoon, restaurants cooking whatever has just come ashore. The limestone bulk of Capo Figari looms above the houses, the perfect cone of Figarolo island floats just offshore, and dolphins are spotted in the gulf even from the waterfront — few places in Sardinia offer them this reliably.
The Costa Smeralda is twenty minutes away, yet in the evening all you hear here is the creak of mooring lines on the bollards. That is the real reason to make it your base: you stay clear of the crowds, sleep in an authentic village, and when the mood for glamour strikes, you get in the car and go and claim it. A luxury car in Golfo Aranci is no indulgence — it is the bridge between two worlds separated by fifteen minutes of corners.
How does the car reach Golfo Aranci?
From Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport it is 23 km, around 35 minutes: you leave Olbia and pick up the SP82, which runs along the gulf with the water almost always in sight. We can have the car waiting at the terminal the moment you land — or get ahead of you and deliver it to your hotel or villa in Golfo Aranci, so you arrive by transfer to find the keys already there.
The port of Golfo Aranci is linked to the mainland by ferry: arrive by sea and the car will be waiting at the bottom of the ramp as you disembark. The same applies if you are on the quay or at anchor aboard your own yacht. We operate across 27 destinations and 3 airports in Sardinia, so you can collect here and return elsewhere without any complication. Requirements and conditions are provided at the quotation stage.
Where to drive — and what to see — between Capo Figari and Sos Aranzos
Your first stop is Cala Moresca, at the far end of the pine grove: transparent water, pale pebbles and Figarolo directly opposite, close enough that you feel you could touch it. Leave the car at the pine-grove car park, because from here you continue on foot: the trail climbs to the old signal station on Capo Figari, some 340 metres above the sea, where Guglielmo Marconi ran his radio experiments in 1932. From up there the view sweeps from Tavolara to the Costa Smeralda — the most generous lookout in the whole area.
Back at sea level, Spiaggia Bianca earns its name: brilliant white sand and a seabed that shelves gently, at its best in June when it is still half empty. Heading south you reach the secluded granite coves of Sos Aranzos — take your time, and pack a snorkel mask. And then there is the road itself: the SP82 back towards Olbia at sunset, roof open and the gulf on your left, is one of those short drives that stays with you longer than most full-day excursions.
Which car suits a seaside village like this?
This is not a place for horsepower on parade, but for a car that sits naturally among the village's low houses and comes alive on the coast road. The Porsche 718 Boxster is the perfect measure: compact for the narrow village streets, low-slung for the curves of the SP82, with a fabric roof that folds away in seconds the moment the gulf catches the light.
Travelling as a couple and wanting more comfort? The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 adds space, technology and a V8 that elevates even the run to the beach. On this coast, open-air driving borders on a moral obligation: browse every soft-top in the fleet among our convertibles for hire in Sardinia, and find advice on choosing in our guide to the 7 convertibles made for the coast.
