Why does a luxury car make perfect sense in Baja Sardinia?
Baja Sardinia took shape as an elegant resort village in the very years the Costa Smeralda was being invented — yet it sits just outside the Consortium's boundary, which is why it has kept a more easygoing soul. The little piazza runs straight down to the sand of Cala Battistoni, the beach clubs are tucked into pink granite, and in the evening the bay smells of myrtle and sea salt. Porto Cervo is ten minutes of curves away, but the rhythm here is different: more barefoot, less shop window.
It is precisely the kind of place where an open-top car stops being an indulgence and becomes the right way to cover ground. Everything is close — Poltu Quatu, Porto Cervo, the gulf-side coastal road — yet every short hop passes scenery that deserves the roof down: granite sculpted by the wind, junipers bent by the mistral, the sea appearing and vanishing between the rocks. Ten minutes of driving here is worth an hour anywhere else.
How does delivery work in Baja Sardinia?
Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport is 34 kilometres away — roughly a 45-minute drive. You can collect the car at arrivals and make your own way to the bay, or find it already parked outside your hotel or at your villa gate, paperwork prepared and a route suggestion from the team. Drop-off works the same way, at whichever point suits you.
Arriving by sea gives you an extra advantage: we deliver to the Marina dell'Orso at Poltu Quatu, the granite fjord five minutes from the bay, with the car waiting on the quay just steps from the passerelle. The WhatsApp concierge coordinates timing, meeting point and details in advance, so all that remains on arrival is the walk-around handover. Requirements and conditions are provided at the quotation stage — once you have your dates, request availability.
Where the car takes you: beaches, the fjord and the gulf road
Start in the centre: Cala Battistoni is the village beach, pale sand and turquoise shallows, at its best early in the morning while the beach clubs are still setting out their loungers. Just outside town, Spiaggia dei Tre Monti offers crystal-clear water framed by smooth boulders — a few minutes by car and well worth the detour before lunch.
At sunset there is only one route: Phi Beach, on the Forte Cappellini headland between Baja and Poltu Quatu. Arrive while the light is still high, leave the car and take your place on the west-facing granite as the sun drops behind the archipelago and the DJ booth comes to life. It is one of those moments that explains why Gallura is so addictive.
For the driving itself, two ribbons of tarmac stand out. The SP59 from Arzachena to Porto Cervo — curves threaded between dry-stone walls and Mediterranean scrub — is the most scenic way to reach the Piazzetta in Porto Cervo. The SP13, the coastal road running from Cannigione towards Palau at water level along the Gulf of Arzachena, delivers one view after another across the La Maddalena archipelago. You will find both in our guide to the perfect convertibles for the Sardinian coast.
Which car suits the bay and its beach clubs?
If Baja Sardinia has a signature car, it is the elegant convertible: the Ferrari Portofino M combines a V8, a folding roof and a boot that swallows two beach bags — ideal for the Baja–Poltu Quatu–Porto Cervo triangle. If you want something compact and precise for the curves of the SP59, the Porsche 911 Carrera is exactly the right size, including for the tight parking at the beach clubs.
Travelling as a four, with a tender at the marina and dinners that run late, changes the brief: a Lamborghini Urus takes luggage, beach gear and the coastal road's bumps in its stride. Our catalogue of convertibles for Sardinia covers every shade in between, from pure roadster to open-top grand tourer — over 100 models and 150+ variants to choose from.
